Tarangire National Park

The name Tarangire National Park was established from the Tarangire River that crosses the park. Just as Lake Manyara National Park, Tarangire National park is also in the Manyara Region, creating a Tarangire ecosystem.

Moreover, the park covers over 2800 sq kms in area. The animals that can be seen in Tarangire National Park are Wildebeest migration, Zebras, Giraffes, Lions and many more. The park is also renowned for the number of elephants.

The park is near Lake Manyara National Park and Arusha town. The drive from Arusha to Tarangire National park is around 3 hours (140 kms)

The drive between Lake Manyara National Park and Tarangire National Park is around 2 hours (100 kms).

Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro crater is located between Serengeti National Park and Karatu town on the way from Lake Manyara National Park. It is a volcanic crater making it the largest non-flooded caldera in the world, which is 300 sq kms in area and 600 meters deep.
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is around 8,300 sq kms in size, covering part of the Serengeti Plains and Lake Ndutu area.
At the end of the wildebeest Migration, between December to February, the animals arriving at Lake Ndutu inside Ngorongoro Conservation Area for the renounced mating season.
Ngorongoro Crater is special because the resident animals coexist with the Maasai Tribe.

Serengeti National Park

It is located in the north of Tanzania. Serengeti is called the African Paradise. The word Serengeti comes from the Maasai tribe called Siringeti which simply means “Endless Plain”. It is specifically located in the Mara, Simiyu and Arusha region. Serengeti National Park is one of the 7 wonders of the world and also a UNESCO world heritage site.

It is famous for the yearly “Wildebeest Migration” where over 1.5 million brindled wildebeests, over 250,000 zebras and many other animals are seen.

Serengeti National Park has multiple entrances such as Naabi Hill Gate, Ikoma gate and Ndabaka gate. However, the most commonly used gate is the Naabi Hill gate that connects to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

In 1929, Serengeti was recognized for preservation and central Serengeti was made into a Game Reserve. In 1951, this reserve became the first and the oldest National Park of Tanzania, where the Ngorongoro Crater was also included. During this time, the country was called Tangayika.

Serengeti National Park is covers an area of 30,000 square kilometers. As a result, Serengeti is the second largest park after the Selous Game Reserve.

The animals that are visible in Serengeti are Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, Hyenas, Buffaloes, Wildebeests, Waterbuck, Giraffes, Zebras, Gazelles, many types of other antelopes and animals.

Wildebeest Migration Serengeti

The wildebeest migration starts from December to February in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, near Lake Ndutu, where it is officially called the mating season. March and April, the wildebeests are in Central Serengeti. From May to August, the animals start heading north of Serengeti heading to Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya. This is where you will the river crossings on Mbalageti and Grumeti Rivers. Wildebeest are in Kenya for only couple of months, September and October only. From October and November, the Wildebeest Migration heads to the south and central of Serengeti National Park for the next mating season. This is a approximate as per the months for the wildebeest migration.

Day 1
Kilimanjaro Airport to Tarangire National Park

Meet, greet with your driver/ guide at Kilimanjaro Airport at 0900 hours and depart for Tarangire National Park with picnic lunch via Arusha town. The drive from Kilimanjaro Airport to Lake Manyara is around 4 hours.

Day 2
Tarangire National Park to Serengeti National Park

Depart for Serengeti National Park via Karatu town and Ngorongoro Conservation Area after breakfast. Picnic lunch will be provided. The drive will be around 4 hours

Full day game drive in Serengeti National Park

Depart for a full day game drive inside Serengeti National Park after breakfast with picnic lunch. The game drive in around 6 to 8 hours.

Morning game drive inside Serengeti National Park after breakfast.

After picnic lunch, proceed to Ngorongoro Crater via Olduvai Gorge for an optional pre-historic tour.

Ngorongoro Crater to Kilimanjaro Airport

Depart for Ngorongoro Crater rim after breakfast. Picnic lunch will be provided.

Descend into the Crater for a tour.

Ascend the Ngorongoro Crater and proceed to Kilimanjaro Airport. The drive will be around 5 hours.

The most important documents are your valid passport and Tanzanian visa. A 3 month tourist visa and single entry is US $50, although Americans pay US $100 and available at Tanzanian airports and consulates.
