Selous Game Reserve is one of the largest reserve in Africa and a UNESCO Heritage site. Selous Game Reserve covers over 50,000 sq km in size. It is part of the protected area in the southern part of Tanzania.
The name originates from a famous hunter and conservationist called Fredrick Selous. Fredrick died in Beho beho area in Selous in the year 1917, while fighting with the Germans during WWI
The famous river that passes through Selous is River Rufiji which connects into the Indian Ocean. The reserve also has multiple lakes such as Lake Manze, Lake Siwandu, Lake Mtagalala and Lake Zelekela.
Selous Game Reserve also has a hot spring in the Beho Beho area.
The animals that you are likely to see in Selous are lion, elephant, hippopotamus, wild dog, zebra, many types of antelope, bird life, giraffe, crocodile, wildebeest, buffalo, hyena and many many more.
Selous offers multiple activities such as Boat safari along River Rufiji, Walking safari inside the reserve accompanied by an armed ranger and Game drives.
2 days Selous Game Reserve is a short and weekend safari that offers boat safari along River Rufiji from 1630 hours to 1900 hours on the first day as you arrive. On the second day, you proceed for half day game drive with early morning breakfast at 0700 hours.
Later, you will proceed to Dar es salaam after breakfast.

On the Boat safari along Rufiji River, you will discover hippos and crocodiles. You will also view over 350 species of bird life along the river and inside Selous Game Reserve.
Game drive inside Selous Game Reserve
The game drive starts from 0900 hours on wards. The Selous Game Reserve gates close around 1800 hours and you must be out before this time. The animals that you are likely to discover on the game drive are Lions, Elephants, Giraffes, Zebras, Hippos, Wild dogs, Antelopes, Wildebeests and many more.
